Station Adoption
What is a Station Adoption?

At the Barton Cleethorpes Community Rail Partnership, we believe our local stations should be welcoming, clean, and at the heart of the communities they serve. Many stations on our line are unstaffed, which means we can’t always visit as often as we’d like. Station adoption helps to bridge that gap.

Station adoption is carried out by local volunteers who take pride in their station and help to look after it. This can include keeping an eye on the site, reporting issues, tending to planters or gardens, or simply helping ensure the station remains a pleasant and inviting place for everyone. Station adopters at Barton Cleethorpes CRP are supported by the EMR Community Rail local Community Ambassador, and of course the BCCRP.

What does the role involve?

Each station is different, so tasks will vary and are always agreed in advance with the station management team.
Typical activities include:
-
Gardening, planting, and general landscaping
-
Painting to cover graffiti or rennervate fencing
-
Litter-picking
-
Reporting faults, damage, or unusual activity
Please note: Station adopters do not carry out structural repairs, work on electrical or mechanical systems, or undertake any activity involving the track or level crossings.

Why become a Station Adopter?
Station adoption offers a rewarding way to get involved with your community while supporting your local railway.
Volunteers often find that taking part brings benefits such as:
-
Better health and wellbeing, through outdoor activity and social connection
-
A positive impact on the local environment and sustainability
-
Stronger community cohesion and local pride
-
Contributing to the success and growth of the railway

Station adoption forms part of the national community rail movement, a growing network across Britain that connects people with their railways and empowers volunteers to make a real difference.
If you love where you live, enjoy meeting people, and want to contribute to something meaningful, station adoption could be ideal for you.
