Rail Safety
It is NEVER ok to go on the tracks
Mind the gap!
Facts about trains
Trains are not cars. They do not have a steering wheel to change course. They cannot leave the track to avoid hitting something on the track. Trains in the UK can reach up to 125 miles per hour and can weigh up to 400 tonnes - the Statue of Liberty only weighs 225 tonnes! If the driver hits the breaks on a train weighing 400 tonnes travelling at 125 miles per hour it takes 2 km (1.25 miles) for it to stop - that's the length of 20 premier league football pitches.

Trespass
Trespassing on the railway network is a serious problem. Research indicates that people fail to understand the danger of stepping on the track, and reasons for trespassing include anti-social behaviour, fare-evasion and short cuts. The main risks of trespass are electrocution and being hit by a train. But there are far more consequences to trespass including:
-
minor injuries
-
serious injuries
-
criminal record
-
prison
-
hurting those you love
-
trauma to others
-
death

Anyone aged 10 years and over can by fined for trespassing because the law says 10 year olds know what is right and wrong. Fines for trespassing are £1,000
