Next up in my Top Ten favourite station countdown we head to Lincolnshire!
No. 6: THORNTON ABBEY
Some stations just have that magic something about them! Thornton Abbey is a station that has quite literally everything I love about the railways there! I first visited here after a walk from Ulceby. On the way I fell in love with the Lincolnshire countryside, it really is an under appreciated part of Britain! Arriving at the station across fields and through a little gate simply blew my mind! Then walking onto the platforms and experiencing absolute bliss made sure this station firmly got a place in my top ten countdown! Would it make your top ten stations? #ELSTOPTEN
East Midlands Railway (EMR) has introduced a new ticket type for the Barton Line which offers groups the opportunity to save up to a third on the cost of travel. EMR’s GroupSave product allows three to nine people to benefit from a discount of 34% off adult tickets when they travel in a group. Plus, customers can take up to four children with them for just £1 each. The line starts at Barton upon Humber, a historic town close to the Humber Bridge, then moves on to Barrow Haven, New Holland, Goxhill, and Thornton Abbey with its imposing medieval gatehouse. The line then passes through Ulceby & Habrough, where it joins the mainline from Scunthorpe, and passes through the villages of Stallingborough, Healing, and Great Coates before entering the bustling fishing port of Grimsby and arriving at the seaside town of Cleethorpes. Simon Pready, Commercial Director for East Midlands Railway, said: "We are pleased to now be able to offer the GroupSave ticket to Barton Line customers. They offer great discounts and are the ideal way to save money when traveling together to see some of the enjoyable attractions on the Barton Line." Top three must-sees on the Barton Line:
For a family day out packed with wildlife and nature, don’t miss Waters’ Edge Country Park and Visitor Centre. A whole 110 acres of country park and nature reserve offer plenty to see and do for everybody.
Thornton Abbey's enormous and ornate fortified gatehouse is the largest and among the finest in England. Its impressive architecture reflects the abbey's history as one of Britain's richest Augustinian abbeys. This North Lincolnshire tourist attraction is the ideal way to spend a day.
This area is made for walking, cycling, and horse riding, exploring the miles of breathtaking scenery from coastal paths to the rolling Lincolnshire Wolds. Visit the fishing heritage museum and have lunch at one of the many bars/cafes or just spend a day at the beach. More information on GroupSave tickets can be found here. | |||||||
