The North Eastern Railway Association was founded in 1961 and is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers. Their charitable object is to advance the education of the public in the history of all the railways that have operated in the North East of England, particularly the North Eastern Railway, its constituents and successors. They welcome new members.
The Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway is one of Britain’s oldest seaside miniature railways, and has been delighting young and old for over 70 years.
Not only does the two mile return journey offer a relaxing way to enjoy beautiful views along the picturesque Humberside Coast, but it also doubles as a transport link connecting Cleethorpes Promenade with their main station Lakeside (near Cleethorpes Premier Inn).
On selected summer weekends, AFRPS run Railtours around the Scunthorpe Steelworks site. With guides on hand, you’ll learn all about Iron and Steel Making with glimpses of red hot steel. The afternoon tours are suitable for all the family and on selected Saturday evenings Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation run adult only brake van tours. You can also enjoy a coffee in a restored Buffet carriage when there is a short stop at the loco sheds.
